The last Terror attack on tourists visiting Pahalgam has been widely viewed as among the most serious civilian Terror attacks to have taken place in this region for decades. On April 22, 2025, armed assailants opened fire on tourists moving in and around the Baisaran meadow, one of the picturesque places of Pahalgam. More than 26 people died in this attack-a tragedy that included foreign nationals and one officer of the Indian Navy.

The Resistance Front (TRF), an affiliate of Lashkar-e-Taiba, claimed responsibility for the assault in Kashmir saying they are concerned about demographic changes after Article 370 was abrogated in 2019. Apparently, the Terror attackers emerged from the close-by forests where they were hiding, and then just began firing at tourists, modulating horrifying panic into just chaos. Eyewitnesses described the scene as horrific. Many tourists were caught off guard as they were taking in the charming surroundings.

This incident will have a devastating effect on Kashmir's economy (which is largely dependent on tourism). The incident is unfortunate as this occurred in-between peak tourism season and has resulted in cancellations and a major turndown in tourist foot traffic. No doubt local businesses like hotels, restaurants, and non-hotel blooding are feeling the effects, not to mention the community moving past this devastation and the attacks that took the lives of innocent people.

Since the incident took place the Indian government acted quickly. Prime Minister Narendra Modi ended the visit to Saudi Arabia and returned to New Delhi to hold a high-level security meetings. Union Home Minister Amit Shah visited the crime scene and met victims's family members. Security forces have launched a massive initiative to track down the perpetrators.

The Terror attack has also sparked international condemnation, with leaders, athletes, and celebrities taking to social media.to condemn the violence and call for justice.
